As a young boy growing up in Gela, Sicily, Rosario Maira never dreamed he would someday start an Italian Restaurant in Texas. As the oldest of seven children, he often helped his mother Josephine in the kitchen and began refining her amazing recipes. After Rosario married his wife, Judy, his culinary repertoire was enhanced by her family's Neapolitan roots.
Together, Rosario and Judy opened Rosario’s Flying Pizza & Italian Restaurant in Texas City in 1978. He served his loving customers for 32 years until retiring in 2009. However, over the ensuing years, Rosario has increasingly missed his customers and the joy he experienced in serving his customers from Texas City and the surrounding communities. The restaurant was often a place of celebration and he loved being a part of many important events in his patrons' lives.
Since his original retirement, the family has substantially grown, with his four daughters and combined eight grandchildren. As a celebration of Rosario and Judy's beloved grandchildren, they have relaunched the business as "Grandpa Rosario's," which will always be a place to dine with family!
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
